Thom,

I suppose that would work just as well, but I think there's a mental setting on Fridays that just makes you want to start relaxing for the weekend.

David,

It's structured in that we do the same thing pretty much every Friday, but it's relaxed and casual as you can see at http://www.flickr.com/photos/wufoo/2821697501/.

It seems like you guys pack a lot into the .5 day on Friday. Do you just go with the flow, or are things more structured?

Either way, I think the idea is great! I've always been a big advocate for focusing on specific tasks and projects.

Thanks for the excellent thoughts. I can't wait to try it out!

Have you considered that Monday may be the better half day? I've noticed an electric effect after a good meeting, discussion or review that could be lost on the weekend. Plus the added benefit of not having to go in early on a Monday. Many holidays are observed on Monday also...

Not exactly, Gallivanter. As I said towards the end, "Sometimes a person can accomplish their goals by working 6 hours a day, and sometimes it can take 10 or more hours a day. That’s up to them." If you work pretty hard for 6-8 hours a day for 4 days a week, you'll usually be able to accomplish what you normally would have in 5 non-efficient days. That's really the key. Becoming super efficient in 4 days in order to produce what you normally would in 5 full days. Working 5 days worth of work in 4 days wouldn't improve efficiency at all.

The idea behind 4.5 days is good, but are the hours extended to cope with the half day loss?

This is great. I'm glad to see people break up work weeks into chunks of time that works for them. I wrote about my "Amazing 5 Day Work Week". More related to how do you find time for your side projects and still put in some good time. Thanks a lot for sharing!
